Your Ships Come in Over the Don’t Care Seas

Your big success usually slides right in when you least expect it.

Don’t you find that when something else has absorbed your attention, and you drop all anxious worry, the things you have desired come to pass? Isn’t it true when you release your mental clutch on something, it seems to manifest almost immediately?

Many people try to force situations; they work hard to make things happen. They pray, plan, plead, strategize, even scheme. Your lasting good will never come to you by forcing it. A major prosperity truth was shared by Florence Schovel Shinn:

“Your ships come in over the don’t-care seas.”

In the creation of your prosperity, there is a Spiritual Principle of Indifference. This principle reveals that the things you desire come to pass when you relax your grip.

Top achievers are often asked about their most stellar performances. I hear the same answer over and over. They say they perform best when they are “in the flow” or “in the zone.” They say they perform best when they drop all conscious thought of striving and enter the experience relaxed about the outcome. One athlete said he ran his best times when he “learned to relax.” A pro golfer said he hit his longest drives when he just slightly loosened his grip on his club.

Now, I am a huge proponent of speaking repeated bold declarations for the positive outcomes you want to see in your life. I fully believe in envisioning the good you want to realize and regularly holding to that vision.  But you cannot let your heart’s desire become your heart’s disease.

Stressful emotions entertained and repeated are a powerful cause of illness. Your body and the conditions of your life are affected by pent-up stressful thoughts.

You become completely de-magnetized when you desire something too intensely. If you are holding on to your desire a little too tight-fisted...you may even be creating what’s been called “mental constipation.” Your worry, fear, and anxiousness are constricting energies that can cramp your ability to receive and actually block or repel your good.

If you want to get things freed up and moving again, one of the most effective spiritual principles you can learn is the Spiritual Principle of Indifference. Here’s how it works:

  1. Every time you feel tense (or intense) about an outcome, turn your desire completely over to God.
  2. Reinforce in yourself the Spirit of God is all-powerful to accomplish your desire.

As a spiritual practice, I love to look to the Psalmists who were so great at imparting faith and trust.

“The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms.” Deuteronomy 33:27

This brings to mind a picture of a long arm symbolizing strength and protection. Can you see that with the realization of the power of God taking over and supporting you, you can relax and let go? Doesn’t this offer you a wonderful sense of assurance and security?

Affirm:  The long arm of God reaches out over people and conditions,

to fulfill my desire in perfect peace, order, and love.

The Psalmist continues in verse 27: “….and he shall thrust out the enemy before you….”

Who is this enemy before you? On the “don’t care seas” the enemy is the surge of intense thoughts that blow through your mind. Enemy thoughts of anxious tension can build up in your mind. Thoughts like:

  • Why is this taking so long?
  • What if my good never gets here?
  • What if this never works out?
  • How much longer do I have to wait?
  • When is this going to happen?
  • Will I ever get well?
  • What if I don’t have enough faith?
  • How much harder do I have to try?
  • What am I doing wrong?
  • How much more time and money do I have to invest?
  • Why isn’t this happening?

To not get in there and try to force things to happen is an important part of your spiritual growth.  Learning when to be indifferent is an art.

The Spiritual Principle of Indifference means you can leave the outcome to the power and wisdom of God. It means you have cultivated the ability to stand still or stand aside and let the infinite intelligence of God organize your successes, lift your burdens and fight your battles.

In 2 Chronicles 20:15 King Jehoshaphat and his people were completely outnumbered by an approaching army when Spirit spoke to them through Jeremiah’s son, Jahaziel.

“Listen, all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: thus says the Lord to you, 'Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God's.’”

The battle is not yours but God’s. The great multitude you face is your adverse thought about the fulfillment of your dream.

And there is a progression in Jahaziel’s words as they rise in number and strength. First, he cites the people in the country, then the people in the city of Jerusalem, then the King. These “thought people” spiritually represent your tiniest, most distant thought about your desire, to your multitude of thoughts about your desire, to your most dominant ruling “King” thought.

You are being advised to not be afraid and to keep all your focus where it belongs, on God.  You cannot let fear, anxiety, or despair overwhelm you because things look discouraging. You are reassured, the battle is not yours, but God's.

Practicing the Spiritual Principle of Indifference, you will conquer your enemy thoughts and any adverse tension will disappear.  You will have a relaxed feeling of trust, your body will be at peace, your resistance will drop, and…

BOOM...your ship will come in!

Today I invite you to let go and trust. Take this opportunity to build your faith and belief. Practice the Spiritual Principle of Indifference and deny any thought of worry about how, when or where your dream will manifest.

Affirm: The battle is not mine but God’s. Today I trust that the infinite organizing principle of the universe knows where my good is and how to get it to me. I relax and let go!
